Case in point of a mothers attitude for “sacrificing” her career for looking after children
A great post by Yu- Kai Chou
Theory: if a mother tells her daughter, “I sacrificed my career for you,” the daughter will (more likely) grow up seeing children as a huge sacrifice. If the mothers says, “I stopped working because I valued you more,” she will see children as being valuable.
Also, there is the added benefit of the child growing up feeling valued with more self-esteem instead of just some baggage that they should feel guilty about.
It is a massive sacrifice, no doubt, but it’s the attitude that makes such a huge difference!
Zelina Sondergaard shares how a change in government policy in Denmark with paid paternal leave legislation can make a difference.
Men can now take time off from jobs and spend quality time with their children.
“What a difference for both children and all of us. This will help letting go of the negative “sacrifice” to more of a possible willingness, because we can .”
